Dear Parents and Carers,

Some reassurances about school in September:

Teaching and Learning

We will have as normal a school day experience for your child(ren), as we are able to follow the new Government Guidelines. There will be some changes:

Children will be in classes within their own Year Group Bubbles. Staff are able to move between bubbles with social distancing in place. Nursery and Reception classrooms will be set up for Early Years teaching – some desks grouped for adult tasks, areas for play activities. Year 1 will be following a mixed Early Years and Year 1 curriculum during first half term to fully support the transition from EYFS to Year 1

Years 2, 3 and 4 will have tables facing forward - children sitting in 2’s – side by side. They will have their own pens, pencils - please do not send in any pencil cases. Exercise and text books, and other resources can be shared within the bubbles. Cleaning regimes will be in place during and at the end of the day.

Literacy, reading and writing, Read Write Inc and phonics and Numeracy - will take priority but will not take over the rest of the curriculum which will still be taught through our Half Termly Topics. For example, we will be reading non-fiction topic books, developing Topic Vocabulary and reading and writing – and speaking and listening - in all subjects.

PE will be outside where possible- Your child needs joggers and outdoor trainers in school, in a PE bag and left in school for the half term. We will be going outside in the cold weather.

Singing will be restricted to outdoors (except Early Years). No whole school Assemblies - Achievement Assembly will be hand delivered Head Teacher Awards!

  • Make sure your child knows who is picking them up.

If you have more than one child, follow the one way system for the younger children, then drop-off / pick up the older child at their door/gate. Staff will be available to assist.

PLEASE make sure your child has what they need in school each day and you are on time for the beginning and end of the day.

For the first 3 weeks, we will have Packed Lunch at our tables in the classroom. We will then be able to review the menu. Children will have 30 minutes for outdoor play and 30 minutes to eat their lunch. Children can bring in their packed lunch bag, with a water bottle.  The price of a school meal remains at £2.25 per child per day.

No large bags allowed in school. No Reading or Homework folders - children will have a see through plastic bag to carry Home-School reading books to and from home.

The Main Office will not be open as normal but by appointment only or by telephone. If you are late, please go to the Main Door and ring the office. Staff will come to collect your child and assist you.

No extra curricular Clubs until at least after October half term holiday.

Out of School Club - we are expecting to run as usual. You will need to express interest NOW. Please email  with your expected requirements. We will have to keep children in bubbles so the sooner we know the more likely we will be able to meet your needs.

Messages and communication between home and school is very important. Please use Seesaw to message staff.  All staff will read your message and respond to your message (at an appropriate time) if needed.

All school information will be shared via Seesaw, the school website and through Parentmail. PLEASE ensure you sign up and we have your correct email address and mobile number.

We have assigned September 1st and 2nd for staff training and preparation of the new school year. Children will return from Thursday 3rd September.

This letter and any updates will be re-sent at the end of the holidays.

Please remember…..

Your children will be amongst a strong team of experienced and skilled staff who know our children well. We have a secure reputation as a caring school where all pupils are treated as individuals; their needs are met and relationships are excellent, including those relationships and partnerships with parents and carers.

I am confident that we will continue to ALL work together to make ‘Return to School’ a success for all of our children.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding towards our school at this time.

Fingers crossed for lovely weather and safe, exciting times over the next few weeks!

Best wishes

Jill Burrell

A special 'hello' to new families whose children are starting our Nursery or Reception  in September. We are delighted that you are joining us at Appletree Gardens and hope you all enjoy browsing through our website. This will give you a taste of everyday life at Appletree. However, like all schools, we are currently closed to most pupils in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.
