Why Year 4 Feels Special (From a Child’s View)
Year 4 is the best because you feel like the leaders of the school! Here’s what makes it amazing:
You’re the oldest in the school – ‘Everyone looks up to you, and you get extra responsibilities. I am a reading leader.’ (Jessica).
House Captains – ‘Some Year 4 children are chosen to be captains for their house teams. You help organize sports events and cheer your team on! I love being a house captain.’ (Beau)
School Bank – ‘Year 4 runs the school bank, so you learn about money and help younger children save their coins. It’s a big responsibility because you have to make sure your money box balances at the end of each banking session. It feels like a real job! I want to work in a bank when I’m older!’ (Arlo)
PE is awesome – ‘You do lots of sports, try new activities, and sometimes compete in tournaments. The school even has a Platinum award for PE! I played for Appletree in the Hockey Festival and go swimming, and I can now swim 100m.’ (Daphne)
Reading is celebrated – ‘You get to read exciting books, join reading challenges, and visit places like Seven Stories. We met Tom Percival who is an author and illustrator, he was very inspiring and made us all want to keep trying at things we find hard like he did. (Issy)
Special trips – ‘I was desperate to get to year 4. You go on adventures like visiting tunnels when we learn about WWII. I can’t wait to go to Robinwood because we get to sleep there and try new sports like archery.’ (Joe)
Leadership and helping others – ‘We help the younger BLOSSOM buddies, and we buddy up with reception children when they first start school. I can still remember my buddy when I was in reception, he was really kind to me when I was a bit unsure of the big yard. We help in assemblies and have a big voice in school decisions.’ (Brodie)
Feeling ready for the next step – ‘It’s your last year here, so I’m making the most of every moment with friends and teachers. I want to leave with as many memories as I can.’ (Yazzy)
