6th JULY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you, your children and wider friends and family ‘bubbles’ are all well and continuing to ‘stay safe’.

I am writing to update you on the current situation in school, to give you some information about pupil’s return to school and some of our plans for September.

Since June 3rd, we have had up to 80 children in school each day and been able to implement the Government guidance on school routines, hygiene and cleaning practices with success. There has been an overwhelming positive feedback from children, parent and carers. Numbers have risen as more Key Worker/Vulnerable children, Year 1 and Reception children have returned over the weeks. Safety has been managed positively with all staff and children able to follow the processes in place.

During the last week of term, we are holding 3 separate Leaving Celebration afternoons for our Year 4 children - again, under strict guidelines. This has taken a lot of organising and we are sure that the children will have a memorable experience - and feel they have had the opportunity to say ‘goodbye’. We will miss them!

On 30th of June, the Secretary of State for Education confirmed schools are not to open over the summer holidays for vulnerable children and children of critical workers. “Teachers, support staff and school leaders deserve a break, to recharge and rest” were his words. We will, however be opening OOSC for limited numbers of children over the summer, as this holiday provision also has strict guideline to follow.

You will also receive an Annual Report for your child which is based on the last assessments carried out before school closed. We know that lots of families like to keep reports. They will come out to you through ‘Parentmail’ on Friday.

Families who are eligible for Free School Meals will receive one FSM Voucher to cover meals during the six weeks holidays. Families should receive this voucher on Monday 20th July 2020.

Any equipment - PE kits etc. which have been left in school will be passed up to your child’s new class.

School uniform is available from Emblematic.  Please order your school uniform online for home delivery at https://studentuniform.co.uk/appletre177/

New Classes – Classes of children will be moving ’up’ to their new year groups as whole classes. Each class teacher(s) has made a short video to introduce themselves to their new class, the classroom etc. This will be available on Seesaw (current class) on Friday 10th July.

Teaching and Learning- I want to address any concerns you or your child(ren) may have about learning and ‘catching up’ in September. We know that there has been fantastic work through ‘Home Learning’ and we have be amazed at how much has been achieved by all of you while away from the classroom at home. But we recognise that the majority of children have missed at least 4 months of classroom time and will have been away from school for almost 6 months when we return. Please be reassured that on return, children will be supported, whatever their Home schooling experience has been. We will teach the children what they need to know- whatever ‘stage’ they return. We teach children to their ability - we support when needed and we will ‘challenge’ when children are ready to progress to the next 'level' of learning. Children are only 'moved on' in their learning when they are ready - either as a class, group or individual. We are all still very much in this together and we will continue to support all of our community and provide opportunities for additional help wherever this is needed, both educationally and emotionally.

Your children will be amongst a strong team of experienced and skilled staff who know our children well. We have a secure reputation as a caring school where all pupils are treated as individuals, their needs are met and relationships are excellent - including those relationships and partnerships with parents and carers. I am confident that we will continue to ALL work together to make ‘Return to School’ a success for all of our children.

We have assigned September 1st and 2nd for staff training and preparation of the new school year. Children will return from Thursday 3rd September. There will be more information on how children will return in September before the end of term and reminders at the end of August.  All information will be shared via Seesaw, the school website and through Parentmail. PLEASE ensure you sign up and we have your correct email address and mobile number.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding towards our school at this time.

Best wishes

Jill Burrell
