Appletree have been allocated £18, 370 for academic year 2020-2021 for the school sport premium.
Balance brought forward from 2020 (Covid 19 effected): £14,048.
Total available: £32,418
This is the spending from September 2020. The large amount of money carried forward is due to the Covid pandemic and the closure of the main school. The remaining money that we have brought forward, must be spent first and by 31st March 2021.
Items bought within the March 31st window will be marked **
With this new academic year being different to normal, we have reviewed our targets and aims for this year:
- To continue to achieve Sainsbury’s School Games Gold award. We are aiming for a first for Appletree Gardens of the Platinum award, which is achieved by receiving gold standard for 5 continuous years. This year this is a self assessment tool.
- To continue to develop the outdoor playground to make it interactive for play and lunch times.
- To involve and encourage the less active children.
- To give teachers the opportunity to be involved in CPD.
- To attend festivals (virtual and physical when permitted) and maintain the progress in the School Games Medal Table.
Extra Curricular Activities
Extra curricular activities resumed in Autumn 2.
We have kept the number of children allowed to attend to a maximum of 15 per year session.
The sessions are in keeping with school protocol, year group bubbles only, thorough cleansing of equipment both before and after the session, sports/activities in line with governing bodies/government/Local Authority advice and finally limiting the number of coaches into school (same coaches every week and they are assigned to a school)
We are hoping to resume Extra Curricular activities after Easter.
Again, these will adhere to school protocol and risk assessments, with the children staying in their bubbles. Look out for the club letters soon.
** 2018/2019 Year 4 swimming - 50% of children achieved 25 metres or more in their final assessment **
No assessments for swimming were made for the 2019/2020 year.
New Outdoor Gym Equipment
We are excited to announce that Appletree will be having a fully functional outdoor gym installed in March. The equipment will include, air walkers, rowers, step up benches, arm and pedal bikes, sky steppers and much more!
There will be enough equipment for a full class of 30 children to engage in activity. We intend on opening up the area at playtime, lunchtimes, PE lessons, and also after school allowing parents to use it with their children (all covid19 appropriate at the current time)
The equipment has many benefits such as improved strength, increased heart rate, coordination, agility, and is another way that they children can add to their active time throughout the school day.
Below are the first photographs, with installation to start on Tuesday 9th March.
School Games Mark
For the fourth consecutive year Appletree have been awarded the Gold Standard. This is recognition for the excellent work we do within PE and sports provision throughout the year. The award has 3 levels – bronze, silver and gold. Each standard has different criteria to achieve and at the end of the application an overall judgement is made. We are proud of our PE and will continue to dedicate time and efforts in this area.
Due to Covid19 there was no award to be gained for the year 2019-2020. Instead it was replaced with an inclusive health check and recognition that Appletree still strive to provide PE and School Sport for all.
